Lessons in Leadership | Handling Intergroup Conflict

Thursday, July 9, 2026 at 12:00 PM until 1:00 PMEastern Daylight Time UTC -04:00

Don’t press pause on your development this summer. Join us for the next session in Brown University’s Lessons in Leadership with Ed Barrows, professor of the practice of leadership and academic director of the master’s in organizational leadership, on "Handling Intergroup Conflict: Turning Tension into Better Outcomes".

Conflict between teams is inevitable. Left unaddressed, it can slow progress and create friction. Managed well, it can sharpen thinking, strengthen decisions and lead to better results. In this session, Barrows will explore how effective leaders don’t avoid conflict — they structure it to surface differences, align priorities and move work forward.

During this one-hour session, you will learn how to:
    • Recognize the difference between productive and unproductive conflict
    • Surface and navigate competing priorities across teams
    • Facilitate conversations that lead to clarity, not gridlock
    • Channel tension into stronger decisions and better outcomes

This session builds on earlier conversations in the series. If you’re new, you can catch up on previous sessions on our YouTube channel.

Registration is no longer available because the registration deadline has passed.
