Mini-Lecture: From Principles to Practice: Making AI Governance Real

Wednesday, March 4, 2026 at 12:00 PM until 1:00 PMEastern Standard Time UTC -05:00

While AI governance is grounded in crucial principles such as fairness, accountability, and transparency, there can still be much ambiguity as to how to put these principles into practice in real world settings. In this talk, Tomo Lazovich, Assistant Professor of the Practice in AI Governance and Policy at the Brown University Data Science Institute, will walk through a few examples of their own experience building governance metrics and tools in real-world settings, from big tech companies like Twitter to government agencies like the U.S. Census Bureau. Through all of these, they will discuss some of the creativity and novel thinking that needs to happen when translating AI governance principles into practical settings.
